You will use your expertise to:

  • Participate in our Journey to Zero safety program by striving to operate vehicles safely and driving to appropriate conditions
  • Follow our operating standards and procedures while operating various makes and models of haul trucks
  • You will complete walk-around inspections, safety checks and field level risk assessments and ensure the heavy equipment is running properly
  • Identify and report any necessary repairs to the maintenance team or supervisors
  • Communicate and report all incidents, damage and near misses immediately
  • Establish relationships and ensure you provide regular updates to your supervisor to facilitate a positive experience

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Current enrolment in a formal co-op or internship program in 3rd or 4th year Mine Engineering at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term

  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Previous experience operating equipment (haul trucks, wiggle wagon, dozers, graders, excavators) in industries such as mining, civil earthworks, pipelines, sawmills, pulp and paper mills or manufacturing, or highway construction
  • A continuous improvement mindset and are able to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace
  • A zero-tolerance for shortcuts, and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • This is an 8 work term, from May 2019 – December 2019
  • These positions have been identified as safety sensitive
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
  • Your work schedule will be determined based on the position requirements
