Mechanical Engineering Student (May 2022)

You will use your expertise to:

  • Participate in developing solutions to technical issues and verifying the implementation of these solutions
  • Understand and optimize current operations and develop, maintain and implement a long-term depletion plan and make forecasts by using numerical simulation
  • Develop tools for tracking process data for analysis and metrics reporting
  • Review daily production data for accuracy and bring together in data management systems
  • Prepare and present summary reports, performance metrics reports, graphical representation and presentations, as required
  • Build and assist with developing production profiles to support long range plans
  • Optimize completion designs of pumps, instrumentation, flow controls and tubular

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate mechanical engineering program at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term (attach your transcripts with your application)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office software (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong collaboration skills that enable you to build strong and positive relationships within diverse groups
  • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and drive projects forward
  • A continuous improvement mindset that enables you to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace
  • Ability to multi-task and manage several competing and complex priorities
  • Can identify out-of-the-ordinary conditions and/or anticipate potential problems, taking necessary initiatives to proffer solutions
  • Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • A desire for a career in the oil and gas industry
  • Work experience in the oil and gas industry; in your resume, please indicate any specific skillsets you have that relate to the oil and gas industry (ex. field experience, office experience)
  • Data analytics experience is necessary for some but not all of the positions. If you are enrolled in a discipline that specializes in data sciences or if you have experience in the fields of automation, coding (using python), statistics, or surveillance by exception techniques, please clearly indicate this in your resume and describe your qualifications.

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • This is an 8 or 12-month work term starting in May 2022
  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W., our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta, or out of our MacKay River site in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Occasional travel to sites in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo may be required
