Play an important part of creating, executing and monitoring the plans for mining with a fleet of over 150 ultra-class haul trucks. We have multiple opportunities for Engineering and Geology students within our Short Range Mine and Tailings Planning and Mine Operations groups. What are you waiting for?

You will use your expertise to:

  • Assist with tracking soil movement, analyzing survey data and producing weekly maps
  • Support the coordination of projects, ordering materials, organizing deliveries, and managing project timelines
  • Create project scope descriptions and maps
  • Track, schedule projects, and evaluate contractor resource allocation
  • Verify dispatch data integrity and data analysis
  • Report and investigate daily on production and performance of the mine’s fleet using the dispatch system and an SQL database
  • Develop new and specialized reporting tools on demand
  • Assist in producing weekly Coarse and Fine Tailings plans
  • Provide direct technical support to all members of the Mine Operations team
  • Undertake a range of business optimization cases and cost saving initiatives
  • Assist in the development of mine planning standards, policies and systems; the design of mine-site infrastructure (ditches, haul roads, stockpiles) and other development activities

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Current enrollment in a formal co-op or internship program in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year Engineering or Geology at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term

Preference for:

  • Intermediate to advanced computer proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
  • Experience with Minescape and/or Mine Sight
  • The ability to drive to continually seek knowledge and understanding: you strive to understand the systems, processes and hazards in and around the workplace
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, administration and organizational skills

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will be based in Fort McMurray
  • This is an 8 – 12-month work term, startiing in January 2021
  • Some of these positions have been identified as safety sensitive
  • Relocation support will be provided if approved for the position, we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
  • Your work schedule will be determined based on the position requirements; however, most positions will be 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday
